Powertrain
The highlight of any Porsche model is its powerplant, and this one is engineered to thrill. The new 3.5-liter boxer engine in the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is more compact than its predecessor because it doesn’t require a belt drive. On its own, it produces 478 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.
A new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission has an integrated, permanently excited synchronous motor. That motor assists the engine when idling by supplying up to 110 lb-ft of torque. An electrically driven turbocharger has a motor that acts like a generator that can deliver 11 kW using emissions from the exhaust. The transmission’s motor and the turbocharger pair with a lightweight, high-voltage battery reminiscent of a 12-volt AGM starter battery.
Suspension
For the first time ever, the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS comes with rear-axle steering. This feature maximizes the performance hybrid’s stability when traveling at higher speeds by shrinking its turning radius. The car’s standard sport suspension has adaptive dampers and rests 0.39 inches lower than the previous model’s suspension. That slight yet significant height reduction gives the hybrid driving dynamics you’d expect from a Porsche GTS model.
Technology Features
New Porsche vehicles boast all the latest technology, with the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS being an excellent example. The Porsche Driver Experience puts critical controls on or beside the steering wheel. An inductive phone charger resides inside the car’s center console, which also offers cooled storage space.
